PMEL Interns
PMEL internships take place during the summer to provide Scholars with hands-on, practical educational training experience in NOAA-related science, research, technology, policy, management, and education activities. They work across various groups at PMEL with assigned mentors.

Hope Jerris
I am a senior at Middlebury College, majoring in Earth and Climate Sciences and graduating this coming February. After graduation, I plan to get a PhD in geological or chemical oceanography and go on to teach at the high school or college level. I grew up in New Jersey and have lived all over the place during college summers and for study abroad--I'm excited to add Seattle to the list! This summer, I'm eager to spend lots of time baking, hiking, and exploring all that Seattle has to offer.

Hello! My name is Selena Yu and I'm from Salt Lake City, UT. I go to UCLA, where I study Computer Engineering with a minor in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. Some of my hobbies include playing piano, reading, and skiing. I'm excited to explore Seattle, especially the markets and hiking nearby!

JoJo Pikowski
My name is JoJo Pikowski and I am a student at the University of New England, double majoring in Marine Science & Data Science, with a double minor in Applied Mathematics and Geographical Information System (GIS). I want to pursue a career as an Oceanographer and contribute to research investigating the effects of climate change on our ocean currents as well as the impacts of the changing ocean temperatures on our ecosystems. As for my hobbies, I am a drone pilot & photographer as well as a scuba diver who loves to explore nature. I am also an avid WNBA fan and love to attend games during the season. I am excited to explore Seattle and be a part of the NOAA Family!

I'm Andrew Dixon, an MS student in Earth Systems and Environmental Engineering at the City College of New York. I'm looking forward to exploring more of Seattle's greenery and becoming a temporary Mariners fan. If you see me around, feel free to talk stats (baseball or otherwise)!
Dwan Jackson
My name is Dwan Jackson. I am a NOAA CCME-II Graduate Scholar studying Biology with a concentration in Marine and Environmental Science at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. I am excited to be here in Seattle and at PMEL for the summer to learn all that I can during my internship, complete my research project, and get involved with other projects along the way.

Amanda Blunt
My name is Amanda Blunt and I am studying environmental science with a minor in environmental engineering at Seattle University. I work as a chemistry teaching assistant for my school and am very passionate about science education. In my free time I enjoy reading science fiction books, hiking, and trying out new recipes. I am thrilled to be diving into the world of atmospheric chemistry this summer!
Elise Herzfeld
Elise Herzfeld is a rising senior at the University of Washington, pursuing a degree in Oceanography and dual minors in Chemistry and Climate Sciences. Her educational pathway is guided by her interest in earth system interactions and their future under a changing climate. Growing up in Minnesota’s northwoods, Elise has a love for the outdoors and spends her free time hiking, kayaking, and playing tennis.
Jingwen Liu
I am a senior student in Johns Hopkins University and majoring in Earth & Planetary Sciences. I am interested in air-sea interactions, ocean meridional overturning circulation, water mass transformations, and climate variability. I am also excited to learn more about the instrumentation for this summer.

Ryan Moinazad
Ryan Moinazad is a rising sophomore at the University of Southern California, pursuing a dual degree in Biological Sciences and Legal Studies, as well as dual minors in Healthcare Studies and Law and Biopharmaceutical Sciences on a pre-medicine track. He is especially interested in the applications of environmental research to human health and better characterizing the impact of human activities on natural environments. Born and raised in Seattle, Ryan loves the outdoors and can be found hiking, swimming, and exploring new places outside of work and school.
