    Experience and Skills

Biology Instruction. I am a thoughtful and energetic teacher with student teaching experience in biology. In my year at Rex Putnam High School in Milwaukie I taught students in grades nine through twelve. I designed labs, organized field trips and incorporated current technology in my instruction.

Earth Science Instruction. My curriculum is built around a year-long study of the natural area adjacent to our school. Our findings detail water quality, hydrology, and habitat assessment. Results of our research have been cited by local planners and park bureaus. My classroom is an academically challenging hands-on lab class and interactive museum. I am a district leader in the development of science inquiry tasks and conduct teacher in-service training for my district.

School Outreach Work. For three years I have coordinated school-wide programs to encourage under represented student populations to pursue careers in the sciences. I conduct after-school club meetings, plan field trips, and develop curriculum.

Community Outreach Work. I have been a volunteer with Friends of Trees since 1993. I instruct volunteer tree planters in proper care and handling of seedlings and lead crews in neighborhood plantings and natural site restoration projects. I also conduct presentations at crew leader trainings.
