Interview:
Daniel "Doc" Aronson
NOAA Medical Officer
Today I had the opportunity
to interview Daniel "Doc" Aronson, the Medical Officer for NOAA Ship Ronald
H. Brown. Mr. Aronson has been with NOAA for the last 20 months serving
in a variety of capacities. Mr. Aronson serves as the ship's Environmental
Compliance Officer, Morale and Welfare Officer and Officer of the Deck
while the ship is in port. He conducts sanitation inspections and maintains
the hazardous materials inventory. "Doc" Aronson's primary responsibility
remains the health of his crew and the scientists aboard the ship. He
is on call 24 hours a day and maintains regular office hours in the morning.
Prior to working for NOAA,
Mr. Aronson served in the Federal Bureau of Prisons, taking care of inmates.
He has also worked on a Navajo Indian Reservation as well as working with
the INS to service illegal aliens. "Doc" is a humanitarian and cares for
the health and welfare of all human beings.
Mr. Aronson attended Washington
State University, obtaining his Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and Biochemistry.
He continued his education at The University of Texas, obtaining his Master's
of Science in Nursing. Mr. Aronson is leaving Ronald H. Brown on August
4th for Virginia where he will be studying for his doctorate in Nursing.
In Virginia, Mr. Aronson will be serving as Regional Director of Health
Services for the NOAA Atlantic Fleet. He will be responsible eight of
the fifteen NOAA vessels currently sailing oceans around the world.
When on land, Mr. Aronson
enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. He also enjoys a good
game of golf. Thank you "Doc" for making this an enjoyable cruise for
the Teachers-At-Sea. We have enjoyed your stories and your laughter. We
wish you the best of luck as you move to Virginia and your new job!
