The Arctic Heat open science experiment monitors the exchange of heat and light between the sea surface and 20 meters depth in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas, using a specially-modified NOAA Twin Otter aircraft carrying a suite of weather and ocean-sensing instrumentation. Moreover, it's flexibility and endurance means that autonomous ALAMO floats can be launched and data rapidly collected over a wide area, when and where needed. See a YouTube video of an ALAMO float being deployed from the Twin Otter.
