Re: [las_users] Mini-map still missing

Hi Roland,
We have a map server URL
http://data.nodc.noaa.gov/arcgis/rest/services/NODC.Ocean.basemap1007/MapServer

It is ArcGIS server. Not sure how to apply it to LAS basemap.

Thanks!
Li

Probably not without modifying the code and recompiling it, unless you can specify it in the base URL. If you can give me some hints about what you would need to configure a server for use with the map, I can make the hooks. Or an example of a public server that you would like to use so that I can figure out how to build hooks into the code to configure it. Last time I looked I could not find any public server that would give me the tiles I need expect for the one we are currently using.

As of this moment, the mini-map is working find for me. :-)

Is there a way to specify a specific layer from a map server to be displayed as a base map?

You will find this block in UI.vm in the WebContent of the las directory (the root of the deployed app under webapps/las):

    <script type="text/_javascript_" language="_javascript_">
        var OL_map_widget_tile_server = "http://vmap0.tiles.osgeo.org/wms/vmap0";
    </script>

This is the URL of the tile map server. If anybody has suggestions of servers to try please share them with the list.

Hi Roland,

Where is the map tile config element located in LAS/Ferret?

We depend on an external server run by osgeo.org for the mini-map tiles. They provide this map server as a public service and we have been fortunate that they have been fairly reliable over the years. The only solution to the occasional down time is to run your own map server and configure LAS to use it instead.

If an organization is interested in running a map server for the LAS community we'd be interested in knowing about it.

Anyone know when the mini-map will be accessible again?  It has been missing since at least 5/13/15.  We have gotten at least one response from a teacher that was going to use one of our lessons but because they only got a pink box, they are going to try something else. What is the status on this?
