Hi-
The vertical_section script calls the SAMPLEXY function.  You can 
probably use that function directly to do whatever it is you want to 
do.  At the start of the vertical_section script

  yes? go/help vertical_section

you'll see the suggestion to try running the samplexy_demo.jnl script. 
That may give you more ideas.
