[ferret_users] Why do I get PPL+ error: Unable to read "default.spk"

Dear All,

I get the following fatal error.

yes? shade/L=1 PRECIP

 PPL+ error: Unable to read "default.spk" to set shade and fill colors.

Cannot find OLD file
Program terminated by fatal I/O error
Abort (core dumped)

I could see the above file in the following directory.
[cshaji@maud ppl]$ pwd
/home/ferret/ppl
[cshaji@maud ppl]$ ls -alp def*
-rw-r--r--    1 root     users         112 May  6  1999 default.pat
-rw-r--r--    1 root     users         174 Apr  2  1999 default.spk


Can someone explain me what is this erroe and how do I fix it? Do I need
to have another version of the above file?
