a similar problem can be observed since a long time in ferrets
for Linux. (5.7 with suse linux still has this problem.) 

I am often working with a skript file opened in nedit and take
pieces of code with the mouse to paste it to the ferret command line.

This works well with the AIX ferret even for very long skripts.
With linux ferrets only a few lines can be taken by the
mouse, otherwise a single symbole is missing somewhere which
leads to errors.
