Re: [ferret_users] [Ferret] about Fprint and histogram

Hi Gao,
Fprint is a Unix script, which calls gksm2ps. If you are running Ferret under windows, then you need to run gksm2ps as it is explained in the Users Guide, under "gksm2ps" in the index - Chapter9, section 4.2 Metafile translation. I'll put a note about this in the documentaion.  Sorry for the confusion. The simplest command is this

   gksm2ps -o  psfile.ps metafile.plt

In the FAQ, you will want to follow one of the procedures to edit the postscript output in your own editor and thicken the lines with changes to the line definitions, or use a tool like Adobe Illustrator as Rob Scott suggests.

Hi, Manke

I read the following links before, and tried to use  "Fprint -R -o *.ps  *.plt", but it doesn't work for me.

I checked and found there is no such program under the TMAP directory, just have gksm2ps.exe. Isn't this program installed in Ferret?

Is Fprint used under batch mode as GKSM2PS?

Hi -
The "thick lines" question has been talked about, with contributions from Billy Kessler among others.  Here's a recent message on this

http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/Ferret/Mail_Archives/fu_2005/msg00474.html

There is also an FAQ, How can I control line thickness when I translate a metafile to a postscript file?

Hi, all

Here i have two questions.
One is about command Fprint. I looked through the email archives, but still have no idea to change thin lines in PS files to thicker ones. When i use Fprint i am informed no command. I wonder know how to use Fprint and under what conditions to use it? The ferret version i'm using is 5.53, on windows 98.
Are there any other ways to get thick lines output besides the above method?
The other one is wether ferret can get the following histogram plot, and how? I want to plot histogram instead of line.

Thanks
Gao Rongzhen
