dear ferreters,

as a newbie I thought I'd consult the ferret community before embarking 
on a possible fruitless mission. Problem: I have tons of data in HDF5, 
I have the fortran to read these data, can I get it into ferret? My 
idea: would it be possible to combine my existing routines to read the 
data in a 'ferret external function' . So I pass 'filename' and 
'fieldname' to the external routine and in return receive my data set 
in ferret. Apologies if this idea is way off the mark. I have seen the 
archives re DODS, but I was hoping to do it locally.
