varaince and var_n jnl files

Dear Users,
Has any one used the varaince and var_n.jnl files
suplied with ferret?
http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/Ferret/FAQ/analysis/correlations.html. I am
finding correlation of the out put at the above link shows more than 1. how
can this happen?, the correlation coefficient can only vary between -1 to +1
which will happen when there is no correlation at all and when there is 100%
correlation respectively. What is the method used in the jnl file? is it
covariance instead of correlation?( but there is covariance under the same
varaiblle name as out put) . Please help if any one has the answers.
Thanks in advance,

Sudheer
