external functions on linux

What FORTRAN compiler is used to compile ferret and its external functions for 
linux? I have not seen any indication in the documentation. I ask since there 
are sometimes problems in linking routines compiled by one compiler with those 
compiled by another compiler.

Will it work with the Portland Group compiler? If so, does anyone have the 
necessary comiler options?
