customizing XY graphs using ppl commands

Dear Ferreters,
i'm trying to customize XY plot, normally made with the command:
'plot/vs var1,var2'.
I want to change the size of the graph, change ticmarks, remove logo's etc.
I'm not having any success with 'plot/set var'.
i want to set the buffer correctly so that 'ppl plot' will produce my plot.
can anybody help - please
