Deep Argo
GOBOP is working actively on the implementation of Deep Argo, an expansion of Argo's capabilities to depths of up to six kilometers, including deployments in the Southwest and tropical Pacific Ocean, western South Atlantic Ocean, and the southeastern Pacific sector of the Southern Ocean. The western South Atlantic deployments started with a partnership with the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation. In the photo, Research Scientist Dr. Elizabeth Steffen of CIMAR/PMEL (left) and Marine Technician Elizabeth Ricci of the University of Hawaii (right) deploy the second of two PMEL Deep Argo floats near Station ALOHA, northeast of Oahu, from the R/V Ka'imikai-O-Kanaloa in May 2018. This instrument is a Deep SOLO model, developed at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and manufactured by MRV Systems.
