1. Show values option using LAS 8.6.3 and Ferret 7.2 and tomcat 7.0.65 and then updating to tomcat 8.5.23 gives inconsistent results.

Show values either 1)works as expected on a some datasets, 2) displays empty black box outline with title Table of Values, or 3) displays message working on your request (gave up after 320 seconds) but did not finish.

The code for this feature is pretty stable and without checking the logs I would wager that it has not changed since 8.0. So some things that might be coming into play: data access from the data source (time out issues), browser cache (blank output). I recommend you clear your server cache ($TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/las/output) and your browser cache and try these requests. If they fail note any message in the browser _javascript_ console and message in $TOMCAT_HOME/content/las/logs/las.log and report back what you find.

2.  Compute average option over time or area also fails inconsistently.   One error for Average over area resulted in:
**ERROR: command syntax: FERRET_PLOT_VAR_0 = ???
DEFINE SYMBOL ferret_plot_var_0 =
However, the request for Average over time on the same parameter produced a plot.
This might be an error in the Ferret scripts that run behind LAS. If you can make it happen send the _debug.txt from $TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/las/output where this error string appears.

Another error:  NetCDF: DAP server error (OPeNDAP/netCDF Error code -70)
             Data set: https://mynasadata-dev.larc.nasa.gov/thredds/dodsC/las/aerosol_data/data_https___mynasadata-dev.larc.nasa.gov_thredds_dodsC_MISR_AER_aggregation_Count_defaultA_init_Optical_depth_average.jnl_expr_%7B%7D%7Bletdeq1+Optical_depth_average_1_transformed%3DOptical_depth_average%5Bd%3D1%2Cx%3D-179.75%3A179.75%40Average%2Cy%3D-89.75%3A89.75%40Average%5D_cr_ATTRCMD+Optical_depth_average+Optical_depth_average_1_transformed%7D
SET DATA "https://mynasadata-dev.larc.nasa.gov/thredds/dodsC/las/aerosol_data/data_https___mynasadata-dev.larc.nasa.gov_thredds_dodsC_MISR_AER_aggregation_Count_defaultA_init_Optical_depth_average.jnl_expr_%7B%7D%7Bletdeq1+Optical_depth_average_1_transformed%3DOptical_depth_average%5Bd%3D1%2Cx%3D-179.75%3A179.75%40Average%2Cy%3D-89.75%3A89.75%40Average%5D_cr_ATTRCMD+Optical_depth_average+Optical_depth_average_1_transformed%7D"

Try clearing the F-TDS cache ($TOMCAT_HOME/content/las/conf/server/temp) and try this request again. If if fails look for clues $TOMCAT_HOME/content/thredds/log and the _debug.txt file as above.

3. This appears after tomcat is bounced:

The Ferret memory management was recently re-worked. I will pass this error along to the Ferret team.

Are other users of LAS 8.6.3 seeing these things? Are these issues data related?

We have been running 8.6.3 on all of our public servers since it was release without any issues.
