[las_users] Problems installing LAS

Folks,

I'm trying to install LAS and I have experienced a few problems.

First, I have installed the TDS, but on the Installing and integrating TDS
with LAS page
(http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/LAS/documentation/installer-documentation/installation/installing-and-integrating-tds-with-las)
there's a section on how to "Create or identify some disk areas for data and
temporary files." The documentation claims that various default directories
will be created by the installation process, but I'm unclear which
installation process this is, and why the documentation for the LAS
installation ("Installing LAS V7.0"), assuming that's the installation
process in question, doesn't mention all of this. I'm left very confused by
this documentation.

Secondly, I have tried numerous times to install the LAS software
(las.v7.0.3.tar.gz). Installation of the Perl modules fails every time. Is
there an unlisted software prerequisite for the XML::Parser module? I tried
to install the modules just for LAS and that failed, so I tried installing
the modules by hand using CPAN. Here's what I see:

Basically, I am not finding the documentation very clear and the Perl
modules don't install.

I'm running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, this system is running Desktop but
once I get things built and tested I hope to deploy on Server.
