Hi Ethan,

I have installed  las.v7.0.beta on both tomcat5 (5.5.27) and tomcat6 (6.0.14)
and I have your animation problem on both, so I think the problem is not 
related to the version of tomcat.

I rather think it's some how related to the browser. It sound strange, but  I 
sometimes I get error messagese just like yours using IE7 (7.06), but not 
using Firefox (2.0.0.14) nor Chrome (0.2.149). 

It happens for istance that using IE7 when I choose the first dataset and 
variable to plot. the variable is plotted but the DATE <select>  field soon 
disappears (all NULLs) and the next plot I ask for (if I don't change 
dataset) returns the same error as yours (I also get NULLs in all the "set 
plot options", "animate" and "compare". To get a plot I need to change 
dataset and from now on plots are all right, but the   "set plot options", 
"animate" and "compare" have no fields inside, only "submit" and "close".

On the contrary both Firefox and Chrome work properly and when the first 
variable is plotted the DATE <select> field contains the name of the months 
and the next plots (even of the same dataset) are all properly done. Also the 
"set plot options", "animate" and "compare" contain the right fields.

The above beahavour is indipendent from the version of tomcat: I got it with 
both tomcat5 and tomcat6.

I'm quite confused because the animation error you report (and I get on 
tomcat5 and tomcat6) seems to be unrelated to the browser since I get it on 
Firefox, Chrome and IE7.  On IE7 "animate" has no fields.
