Ben,

Here is what we have on our RedHat Enterprise 3 system

java version "1.5.0_01"
perl, v5.8.0
netcdf 3
mysql version: 3.23.58
FERRET v5.81
DBD::mysql 2.1021
DBI 1.46

I believe this is the mysql that came with the operating system.  I 
don't think we installed it ourselves.  You should also have the 
appropriate perl modules in the LAS tarball.  let us know if you 
encounter any inconsistencies.
