Re: Pb when installing on sun/solaris

I spotted the error:

the tar archive-file is unsupported by sun/os tar utility.
The file path
las/xml/perl/modules/Template-Toolkit-2.07/docs/src/Modules/Template/Plugin/GD/Graph/linespoints.html
is probably too long

it appears truncated (last two characters missing)
and generates a "directory checksum error"

I did not see it at first because I used the "point and click"
mouse-interface when untarring.

Truncating long file names seems to be a long-running bug in Sun's implementation of tar. I would have expected it to be fixed by now, but perhaps it has not been. Anyway, GNU's implementation of tar (gtar) does not have this problem.

Still, I have a question:
what if I don't install mySQL before installing LAS ?

It won't work. You must have an installation of mySQL available in order to use LAS. When LAS is installed and configured all of the information contained in the configuration XML is stored in the mySQL database. When the User Interface pages are dynamically generated based on the choices the user makes, the UI server extracts the information it needs to build the page from the mySQL server. The mySQL server does not have to be running on the same host as the Apache server, but you must have a mySQL installation available to run LAS.

======================

Hello there,

I plan to install a LAS on a Sun-sparc (synBlade 100) /Solaris 8.

I encountered some problems when installing the Perl modules and have
some questions:

1) even though I don't plan to use "sparse-data", am I still obliged to
install mySQL ?

2) module Template-Toolkit-2.07 did not install correctly
I got the following error message:

Can't locate Template.pm in @INC (@INC contains: ./lib
/home/epitalon/las/xml/perl/install/lib/5.6.1/sun4-solaris-thread-multi
/home/epitalon/las/xml/perl/install/lib/perl5/5.6.1/sun4-solaris-thread-multi

I must say I am a newby for Perl. I just installed ActivePerl 5.6 for
the purpose of LAS. Did I choose the wrong version of Perl ?

3) Also, at the end, a few modules did not install

I got the following messages:

=======================

I could create these directories by hand. So I don't see why the install
program could not do it .
Or what else problem is it ?

Please, could you help me ?

Jean-Marie
