Re: Problem of memory with LAS

Tony,

All of the LAS logging and caching occurs in the las directory. If I do a check to look for overly large files in our heavily used NVODS directory I see the following:

webuser> find . -size +100000 -print
./server/output/50355416223368d3c8cb57147b86ca17.nc
./server/output/8aa45e72cdf2332c69e19678c3c7e185.nc
./server/output/a932b702bfbaf1adeb5431d01ff826e8.arc
./server/output/1bea81dd9c6e22172dd8d794692986d1.nc
./server/output/57aac99da2f1d0f2e23d4d5f0014fa05.nc
./server/output/7a56677453f4f7ab358c7418a6f4d347.arc
./server/output/c1d82850e823a81b71fafb402f00b468.nc
./server/core
./laserror.log

I see that somebody has generated some very large NetCDF and ArcView files and there is also a core file and a large error log from Tomcat. All of these can be safely removed to create more space. We provide a small script with LAS to help in cleaning out the output cache. The FAQ for this is here:

http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/Ferret/LAS/FAQ/cache_management.htm

There is only one other place that files are created by LAS. That is the /tmp/ directory which contains files beginning with "lasgo...". These are only created when there is an error and should all be small.

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

Hi all,

I have 3 LAS 6.1 installed on a machine, with 1 Apache and 3 Tomcat.
Today, I have request the LAS AVISO (http://las.aviso.oceanobs.com) : no image in the result.
Cause : disc full on the computer (100% used on /homelocal = 800Mo).
I check different log file etc... No problem with that.
I try to add up the size of the 3 directory in /homelocal : I find less than 800Mo !

I decided to stop all the server (the 3 Tomcat and the Apache) : wonderfull, 400Mo avalaible !

Have you got an idea for this problem ?
Is it the cache of the LAS ? This is not some files, because I didn't saw them on the filesystem.

Regards, Tony
