plotting variable from cdf file

I created a netCDF file that has five variables
(lat,lon,sw,olr,alb) for 12 months. When I try to
use ferret to read and map one of these variables
(say olr) I get the following error message:

	dimensions improperly specified: can only contour
	or vector a 2D region
	CONTOUTR/FILL/nolabel/palette=rnb2.spk/x=180:540/
	y=-90.00:90.00/xlimits=180:540:45/ylimits=-90:90:45 olr

The CONTOUR/FILL ... is my line of code. I used this to get data:
	set data/format=cdf erbs4g.cdf

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
