External functions under Linux

Hello,
I'd like to create a external function under linux (kernel 2.2.5). I'm
using egcs 2.91.66 and the associated g77, and ld 2.9.1 (with BFD
2.9.1.0.23). The command show func/ext generates a core.
Is there somebody who  succeeded in using external function under linux
?
Could we have more informations on the options used to compile the linux
binaries of Ferret ?
