alarm. My apologies to all of you (esp. Steve Hankin) who wasted brain
cells on this one. There is no problem with ferret, only with my
memory. I'd forgotten that I'd set up a PERL script called ferret to run
different versions and which, as it turns out, didn't handle arguments
properly.
