double converted to float

hello,

I want to read in Ferret a NectCDF file with "double" time data as
julian date from beginning of year -4712 !

But Ferret convert the variable to float internally as they are read (as
wrote in Ferret users guide !), and my date is so converted for example
from 2450193.08987612 to 2450193. !

Is it possible to correct the number before being converted or to keep
it as "double" ?
