It's so close! I thought I could write a GrADS "control file" for my binary data and convert it to a netCDF file using xconv, only to realize that GrADS cannot handle double precision reals.

The ideal solution would be for ncgen to accept a binary stream. Currently, it accepts only text representations of numbers.
