Re: [ferret_users] create figure with dark and light grayscale for positive and negative anomaly

Hi,

For a palette defined by percentages, you should go all the way to 0 and 100 on each end.

test.spk
   0      50  50  50
  20      60  60  60
  30      70  70  60
  44      80  80  80
  49.001 100 100 100    ! white
  50.999 100 100 100
  56      45  45  45
  70      38  38  38
  80      30  30  30
 100       5   5   5    ! Black

Dear all,

To submit to a publication with figures in black and white colors, I tried to plot positive and negative anomaly in dark and light gray scale (with white color in centre). I am close to achieving this using a palatte (test.spk), which I defined. However, in the attached figure darkest shade is for next to highest value (between 15-20) but the extreme value (>20) has less darker shade. What I want is progressively darker shade for progressively higher (absolute) values. So I tried to achieve this by adjusting the values/ adding more level etc in the test palette but couldn't succeed. However, If I use only fewer levels (e.g. 7 level) the highest (+ve) level has the darkest shade, but I need to use all the levels shown in the figure. I would appreciate any suggestion on how to achieve the desired shading.
