Re: [ferret_users] grb2 files

You might be able to convert it to netCDF using wgrib2: http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/wesley/wgrib2/

Or you might be able to read it as an OPeNDAP data source if you first serve it via the THREDDS Data Server: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/thredds/current/tds/TDS.html

But there is no way as far as I know to read the file directly with Ferret.

The example you cite from the email archives is using the second method of reading the data via the TDS.

Hi Ferreters,

Is it possible to read/open a grb2 file, and work on it, with Ferret ?

I’ve looked in the web site, in the FAQ section, and found this link:

http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/maillists/tmap/ferret_users/fu_2011/msg00114.html

So it seems to be possible, but when I try, I have an error message :

NetCDF: Unknown file format (OPeNDAP/netCDF Error code -51)

             Data set: ./wnd10m.gdas.200407.grb2

Thanks a lot !
