Hey Saurabh,

There is a simple way to do that, you can regrid your variable to a new yearly time axis.
You can find the details in:

http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/Ferret/faq/averaging-to-regrid-a-time-series

But it is very easy. Would just be something like:

define axis/t="01-jan-1901 00:00":"01-jan-2013":1/units=years taxyear
let hadisst1new = hadsst1[gt=taxyear@ave]
