Hi Patricia,The entire source code for Ferret is available from the Ferret Downloads pages,
http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/Ferret/downloads/downloading_ferretThe contouring routine is in old (but good!) Fortran. Once you untar the source code, it can be found in the file,
FERRET/ppl/plotlib/contur.FIt does not only the contouring, drawing lines as it goes, but also interrupts the lines to make the numeric contour labels. A bit of the origin of the code is discussed here,

Dear ferreters, Is there a possibility to access the actual code of ferret functions like contour? I would be interested in the code ferret uses to generate a contour plot from data. Cheers, Patricia
