Re: [ferret_users] Limit on number of variables has been reached

Hi,
This is a hard-coded limit within Ferret, so it's not possible for you to increase that number. Usually there are ways to let go of variable definitions that are no longer needed. It sounds as if you are stepping through a set of files. Once you have used data from the January file, for example, if you don't need that data any more, you can "cancel data" to close that file and recover storage indices for the variables in that file. Use "cancel variable" to remove all or some of the variable definitions you have made and restore storage for user-defined variables.

If you don't see a way to handle this immediately, you are welcome to send your commands, or a simplified version of your script and people here on the list will probably be able to help you find ways to get it to work.

Hello All,

I am working with;

  	Linux 2.6.18-308.1.1.el5 64-bit - 08/03/12

Can anyone help me out with this error message;

**TMAP ERR: limit on number of variables has been reached
              MAX=        2000
              Data set: ./October.h.0033-10.nc

I was working with monthly ncdf model outputs. I have the 12 (Jan to
Dec) netcdf files in a jnl file. So, i was trying to do some
calculations and make some plots on ferret.
The error message came up when the file got to October (3 months left).

Is it possible to increase the number of variable, or what are
possible ways to get through this error on this version of ferret.
I will appreciate solutions that can make me work with all my
variables or select some of them for my calculations (in case i can
not work with all variables)
I couldn't find anything helpful in the ferret_users mail archives.

Regards
Ogunro
