For some reason my mail is not appearing in the post. This is my third attempt.

Subject: Calling R in ferret

Hi all,

Following an ealier post which works fine (Re: [ferret_users] Statistics / student-t distribution at http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/maillists/tmap/ferret_users/fu_2012/msg00109.html)

I attempted to call a normality test in R from within ferret without success.

yes? list strfloat(spawn("echo 'cat(shapiro.test(`v1`))' | R --slave --vanilla"))
**ERROR: invalid command: grave accent doesnt evaluate to scalar
          v1

where v1 is a variable

yes? stat v1

             V1
             X: 0.5 to 141.5
             Y:  N/A
             Z:  N/A
             T:  N/A
             DATA SET: ../results/Rf_DMI/TS_4_R/IITM_AIMR_TS.txt

 Total # of data points: 141 (141*1*1*1)
 # flagged as bad  data: 0
 Minimum value: 5.032
 Maximum value: 8.501
 Mean    value: 7.0701 (unweighted average)
 Standard deviation: NaN

Clearly, I am doing something wrong but could not figure out. I would appriciate any insight.

Thanks,

Jagadish
