[ferret_users] **TMAP ERR: file limit reached

Dear ferret users,

I have daily files from 1st January 1998 till 30th November 2012, i.e in total 5387 files. I have prepared a descriptive file to read them in ferret.
However ferret seems to have a limit of 5000 files, as it is giving error as 

"**TMAP ERR: file limit reached
             MAX=        5000
             Data set: ./3b42_daily_1998_2012.des"

Is there any way to enhance this limit. I have tried to google it but couldn't find any solution.
