Re: [ferret_users] permille

The oceanographic community no longer uses permille for salinity. We now use dimensionless salinity according to PSS-78 (e.g. http://www.seabird.com/FAQs/FAQsGeneralOceanographic.htm) . Most papers identify salinity with the unit "psu" (practical salinity unit). This can be controversial, with some people arguing that salinity has no units and should be shown as a pure number. I am not among these people, as I think "psu" is clearer, and certainly it is easy to write in Ferret. But I think most reviewers would complain about salinity cited in permille in text or figures to be published.

Hi -
All of the special symbols available to you currently are in the "symbol fonts". The Math font has a percent sign but I don't see any that include a permille sign. I think you'll have to find a way to use image-editing software and add that to your image after producing it in Ferret.

Hi ferret users,

How can I make a permille sign in a label?

Thanks in advance,
