What I showed was the contents of my "palette files".
Palette files are explained in Ch6 Sec5.2, Sec5.2.1, and Sec5.2.2
of the Ferret User's manual:

Basically, you save the contents in a text file,
say, myfancypalette.spk, and use it as

  fill/palette=myfancypalette  temp

in your jnl file.
