Hi Keith,
This has been fixed, as of Ferret v6.5
NOAA/PMEL TMAP
FERRET v6.64
Linux(gfortran) 2.6.9-89.0.20.ELsmp - 09/20/10
18-Oct-10 14:40
yes? use foo
yes? sh grid var
GRID GPB1
name axis # pts start end
normal X
normal Y
normal Z
TIME TIME 1mi 01-FEB 00:00
01-FEB 00:00
I think this fix came along with item 9 of these Release Notes:
http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/Ferret/documentation/v6-5-release-notes
So, if you can upgrade to the latest releases, that will solve this
for you.

Hi,
I've got some model output that is tripping up ferret and am
seeking advice on how to easily get ferret to access the output.
The coordinate variable time has an attribute bounds, with value
time_bounds. The unusual aspect is that the variable time is of
type float, while the variable time_bounds is of type double. The
value for the variable time is the end of the interval specified
by time_bounds.
When I attempt to load the file with the use command, I get an
INFO message stating 'bounds "time_bounds" do not enclose point on
axis time'. While I think that the INFO message is erroneous, it
is not fatal, so I am tempted to brush it off. However, I suspect
that it indicates an underlying 'bug/feature' in ferret that is
leading to the following.
When I attempt to access a variable that is defined on this
dimension, I get an ERROR message stating 'illegal limits: VAR
does not exist at ...', and cannot access the variable values.
I've attached a much simplified example, in CDL and netCDF form.
Given such a file, how can I get ferret to access the variable?
Please note that I have many, many such files, so converting the
type of time_bounds would be rather inconvenient.
The machines I use have versions 6.303 and 6.1. I do not know if
this behavior persists with more recent releases of ferret.
Thanks, Keith
