Re: [ferret_users] mac os x install issue

Thanks all for your answers,

I downloaded v5.70 from:
http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/static/Downloads/mac_downloads.html

I couldn't access Andy Jacobson website however:
http://tazman.princeton.edu/osx/
If there are any requirements, I am therefore not aware of them.

Untarring ferret.tgz and modifying my .bashrc file seems to be working well so far: ferret is starting and I managed to follow the first examples of the tutorial.
I will look next wether I can play with netcdfs.

thanks again

Aurelien,

Have you tried using ferret 5.7 or one of the older versions, rather
than the "latest/greatest"?

Hi Sophie,

thanks for your reply.

This is unfortunately the case, my macbook pro has a 32bit Intel Core
Duo processor.

I assume you didn't find any workaround ?

Hi Aurelien,

is your mac intel an old one?
I had the same problem with my mac intel I bought in 2006, and which
was with a 32-bit processor.
Ferret is compiled for a 64-bits processor.
It might be your problem...

Hi all,

I recently tried to install ferret v6.3 on a mac intel 10.5.8 with
the files found at :

http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/static/Downloads/ mac_intel_downloads.html

When I try to run ferret however, I get the following message:

dyn-113-18:~ aponte$ ferret
bash: /usr/local/ferret/bin/ferret: Bad CPU type in executable

my computer:
dyn-113-18:~ aponte$ uname -a
Darwin dyn-113-18.ucsd.edu 9.8.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.8.0: Wed
Jul 15 16:55:01 PDT 2009; root:xnu-1228.15.4~1/RELEASE_I386 i386

Has anybody already encountered this problem ?

Thanks

aurelien
