Hello Ryo,
my version of Ferret gives error code 22:
NOAA/PMEL TMAP
FERRET v6.08
Linux(g77) 2.4.21-32 - 11/14/07
17-May-10 13:36
yes? use "RYO_contour.nc"
**netCDF error
Invalid argument (OPeNDAP/netCDF Error code 22)
When I tried another software it failed again trying to open it:
cdo sinfo: Open failed on >RYO_contour.nc<
Sorry, I have no idea about the error.

Ferret users,
I've come across a strange behavior of contours.
Normally, the edges (limits) of fill and contour coincide.
In the following example, the contours go only to x=39.25
whereas fill goes to x=39.75. The data is defined at
x = 0.25, 0.75, . . . , 39.25, 39.75 (80 points in x).
I tried to reproduce this phenomenon with other datasets
like levitus_climatology by subsetting them in x
but failed. I have no idea what's so special about
my dataset.
Regards,
Ryo
