[ferret_users] first non-missing data point

Hi Ferreters,

I wonder if there is a simple way to return the values of the first (and 
last) non-missing data along a particular axis within a specified 
region. For example, let's say I'd like to return the temperature on the 
equator at the east coast of South America and west coast of Africa in 
Levitus.
