Are you on a Mac? This is typically a Mac pdf thing. The white lines  
are between the fill or shade boxes in color-fill plot. It usually  
does not show up when printed.

There is a lot of discussion about this in the mail archives. Search  
"white lines" or "white lines" postscript.
