Re: [ferret_users] veckey format: length limit?

Hi Ryo -

I'm pretty sure the vector key label (including both the numerical value and any added text) is limited to 11 characters total. It's not much to work with. Actually, you are lucky. I have seen longer vector labels crash Ferret (v5.7 on a Mac).

Hi Ferreters,

I'm wondering if this problem is due to a limit in the length
of veckey format:

set data coads_climatology
vector/aspect/l=1/set uwnd,vwnd
ppl veckey,`($xaxis_min)-6`,`($yaxis_min)-15`,,(1PE6.0,'' (cm^2/s) ^1^/^2'')
ppl vector

I expected to see a label like "8.0E+02 (cm^2/s)^{1/2}",
but the final number "2" was missing. When I removed the blank

  . . . ,,(1PE6.0,''(cm^2/s)^1^/^2'')

that worked.

A related question is, are font specifications allowed in a veckey
format such as "@AS[@SRcm^2 . . ."? This seems to partially
work . . . (I wanted a square bracket in this case.)

Regards,
Ryo
