Re: [ferret_users] Fedora Core 7

Hii all,
Roland, thanks for helping everyone on this issue. With the next release of Ferret I'll build it with more of the static libraries. It looks as if I have several of the X libraries available in static forms which will cut down on a lot of this.

Hi Roland,
Here is the error message/library I am missing:

Well, this seems to be a bit tricky since the library is officially deprecated, but it appears there is a package you can get which will satisfy this reference.

[roland@ip-208-109-127-60 ~]$ yum whatprovides libXp.so.6
Searching Packages:
Setting up repositories
Reading repository metadata in from local files

xorg-x11-deprecated-libs.i386 6.8.2-1.EL.18 base Matched from:
libXp.so.6

You can try the "yum whatprovides" to see if it's installed on your system. If it is you might just need to add it to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

If not, try installing it:

yum install xorg-x11-deprecated-libs.i386 Roland

Hello,
I just had Fedora Core 7 installed on my computer and tried installing Ferret 32-bit Linux but got a shared library error.
Which shared library or libraries are missing? If it happens to be libstdc++.so.5 then you can install the compat-libstdc++33 package.

There's a note about it here: http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/maillists/tmap/ferret_users/fu_2007/msg00447.html

If there are other libraries missing send the details to the list and we can help you track down the packages you need to install.

I tried installing the static version of Ferret and got this message:

/usr/local/ferret/bin/ferret: Exec format error. Wrong Architecture.

Any suggestions?
The static build that's available is for 64-bit machines. I'm pretty sure we can get you going with the shared library build. :-)
