Hi all,
The most recent release of Ferret allows for 100 files open at a time - 
this is something we can set when we build Ferret and the NetCDF 
libraries. Some previous versions had a limit of 32 files, which is the 
netCDF default value.

If the files represent time steps of a single variable or group of 
variables then you can have up to 5000 stepfiles, if they're set up as 
the stepfiles of a multi-file dataset by using a descriptor file.

See "limits" in the Ferret Users Guide for a list of hard-coded program 
limits.
