[ferret_users] long_name attribute required in Ferret 6.0?

Hello,

I'm just wondering if the long_name is now required for variables?
With versions up to 5.81, if the long_name attribute was not defined,
the variable name was shown as a label below the plot, but with ferret 
6.0 this is no longer the case, only the units are displayed.
Is there a way to show the variable name if the attribute wasn't defined?
