One way to get a logarithmic shade or fill would be to take the logarithm of the values you want to plot first, then plot them.  Then your palette would be annotated by something like 1, 2, ... meaning 10, 100,... in linear units.  Another way would be to shade or fill the values themselves without taking the log and use the /levels switch like this:

shade/lev="(0,1,1)(1,10,9)(10,100,90)(100,1000,900)"...
