Rho_UN calculates density from temperature and salinity. If you use in-situ temperature and pressure, then it gives in-situ density. If you use potential temperature, it gives potential density at your desired reference pressure.

I had the documentation about the 2 temperature standards (IPTS-68 and IPTS-90) added to the Ferret manual. Use IPTS-68 temperatures in Rho_UN to be exactly correct. That's because the eqns. used in Rho_UN were developed by MIllero et al. in 1980 BEFORE the IPTS-90 temperature standard.
