metafile problems in Win32 Ferret

Dear Ferreters,

I'm having a problem creating a metafile using the Win32 version of Ferret 
(Ferret v5.51, cygwin 1.3.x 2/28/03).  When I enter

        yes?  set mode metafile
        yes?  plot(sst)
        yes?  quit

Ferret creates a metafile.plt file but there is nothing in the file (the 
file size is zero).

I'm running on WindowsXP and have the XLitePro v1.4 X server.

If anyone has a solution to this problem, I would GREATLY appreciate it.
