coordinate to variable

Ferreters-
I have a netCDF file with pressure as a vertical coordinate. I would like 
to use the coordinate as a variable in a .jnl file.
Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

I have tried to create a new variable that mimics the vertical coordinate:
let pres=zsequence({...700,750,800,825,850,875,900,925,950})

let the=temp[l=1:25,k=1:24]*(1000./pres)^(287/1005)
but only the last numeric value of pres is left for all the vertical 
coordinates.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
