specifying contour levels based on stored vector

Hello all,

as part of automating a task in a script, I am wondering if it is possible to use a defined vector as desired levels in a contour command?

For example, if x[g=variable] is a quantity of which values I am hoping to use in a "lev=" expression using contour. Rather than writing the levels in the form (1.5)(2.5)(3.5)(4.5) for example, I would prefer to use the value of  a variable, for example longitude or latitude.

This has application for drawing latitude and longitude lines of an arbitrarily defined variable with an underlying grid.
