dummy x-axis?

Hi all,

A quick question.  I have zonally averaged files that I need to give a 
fake x-axis value to.  For some reason GrADs will only read netcdf files 
if they have an x-axis.  I've tried to define a new, 1 point axis and 
regrid to it but the output file still doesn't have an x-coord.  

What I've tried is:
define axis/units=deg/x=0:0/npoints=1 newx
let test=testtime[gx=newx@asn]

but when I write test out it still doesn't have an x-coord.
