Hi Bert,
You can use the ideas in Chapter 8 that you're looking
at, or I think you should be able to use a multi-file dataset;
see "multi-file datasets" in the Users Guide index.

(have grid of monthly(12) or daily time series)

Does this enable me to keep the latitude
and longitude variables?
